5 Minute Craft Idea

For the last 4 months I have been obsessively buying every Scrabble game I find in thrift stores, I’m up to 5 games so I figured I should start using them. So here is my first Scrabble project and Yes you heard me right, it is a fabulous craft that will only take 5 minutes to make!Start with a blank frame you have lying around or one that is just begging for a makeover, most sizes will work.  I used an 11×8 because I wanted a little more of the background color to show.

After you find the frame you want to use, simply frame coordinating photo, paper, or as I used – fabric.  I used left over fabric I had from making my curtains.

I super glued my scrabble letters directly to the glass, but I’m sure you could use a frame without glass and glue it right to the background.

Once you finished gluing the letters onto the frame all you have left to do is hanging up! Like I said how much simpler can it get. It’s very simple but I think its adorable and adds the right amount of color to our little blank wall.

… so the more I sit here and look at my little creation, I think I’m going to add something to the white border… hmmm maybe I could Modge Podge some old dictionary pages to it. Any of you guys have some ideas for me?

I hope you enjoyed this quick craft idea, if you have any 5 minutes or less craft ideas let me know and I would love to feature you!

Scrabble Games

So over the last 2 weeks of Goodwill shopping, I have hit the jackpot! I have found 3 Scrabble games for only $1.99 each!!! You might be thinking… what in the world are you going to do with 3 Scrabble games? Well I will show you.

I want to make one of these:

I found this over at Room to Inspire and fell in love with the idea of framing scrabble pieces.

But this is what is what I am really looking forward to making…

How much fun would this be to have in your house! I will probably wait till we finish moving to California before I get on this project, but I will definitely keep you updated when I get started on it. Head on over to The Twice Remembered Cottage for complete details on how to make this beauty!

Do you have any creative ideas to do with Scrabble pieces? Send me pictures or a link and I would love to feature it.

She made it with a poster frame and clip boards along with a few items she had on hand. Check out here for more details!

What a great, easy, and cheap project! Do you have any fun projects from Dollar Store items? Send me a link and I would love to feature them!

I love these Popsicle snow flakes, find the tutorial here.

I loved how she turned this old dresser into this movable tool box.

Got to love Goodwill!

Here are a few items that I picked up at Goodwill this past week.  I will add links to these items when I have completed their transformation.  I’m excited about the potential these items have. We will just see if the ideas I have in my head, comes out when I start working on them.  Have you had any great thrift store finds lately? Email them to me and I would love to post them.

lamp

I want something pretty simple where it could be added to most decorating styles. Seeing how it turns out I might try to do a resell on this item so I can buy some new projects. But then again, my hubby and I will only be in this furnished apartment for 6 more months…we will need lighting. I guess I will see how attached it get to this lamp. I am thinking about painting the base black and recovering that “beautiful” lamp shade with white fabric. I also might add a black ribbon around the top to add an extra element of classiness. I found a similar idea on this blog, check it out and let me know what you think.

frame

I bought this frame with a specific purpose in mind.  I bought a huge collage frame from Wal-Mart, soon after our wedding.  I filled it with pictures of us dating and our wedding day.  When I finally finished I hung it up on hooks (I hung it by the frame because the cardboard cutout was too small – Yes I know what you are thinking…cheap frame…bad idea) and the next morning collage was laying in pieces on the floor.  So this is where this new, sturdy wood (not plastic) frame comes in, except that it is 1 inch too small. But, no need to worry, this small inconvenience will not get me down, I will (somehow) make it work. Stayed tuned…

Wedding Invitation Collage

frame pic 5

My sister in law, who just happens to be my best friend (yes…best friends married brothers…I know, I know…dream come true!!) made me this photo collage for us as a wedding gift. She used our wedding invitation as a focal point and collaged around it. I absolutely love it!

So when I received another friends invitation in the mail, I knew I had to make one for her too. I hope she loves hers as much as I do mine. I found this frame at Goodwill for $0.99. After I took it all apart, I knew it had great potential.

I glued a 1inch thick piece of Styrofoam to the back of the wedding invitation, then glued it to the center of the background. This not only made it a focal point of the frame but gave a neat 3D / shadow box look. I then surrounded the invitation with pictures of the couple and the engagement ring. I also used different cutouts with quotes and cool patterns on it. Her wedding colors were Lilac and Brown so I tried to keep that as my color template throughout the collage.  After I had completely covered the background with pictures, I put the frame back together. This project was super simple and a lot of fun!

I’m still new at this tutorial thing, hence not many pictures. The project is pretty self-explanatory but I will try to do better on my next project and give you more pictures.
